VARCom President Marks Historic Appointment
VARCom
Solutions, LLC announced today that its president will
soon become the first Hispanic to chair a traditional
chamber of commerce in the history of Virginia. Raul
Danny Vargas will be installed as chairman of the nearly
half century-old chamber at a luncheon on July 11th. Mr.
Vargas has been active in the chamber and the area’s
business community. As a member of the board of
directors, he has acted as the organization’s VP of
marketing, chairman of the communications committee, and
one of the founding members of their Hispanic Business
Council.
Eileen
Curtis, president of the Dulles Regional Chamber said,
“Our Chamber has had a leading role in promoting
opportunities for Hispanic businesses. It is both
appropriate and exciting that the Dulles Regional
Chamber should be the first chamber to be led by a
Hispanic businessman. Danny is full of ideas and a
natural leader”. Vargas added, “It is an honor to serve
this chamber and this community as its chairman. To be
the first Hispanic to chair a traditional chamber in
Virginia is an added responsibility and an exciting
opportunity to promote unity among all segments of the
community and provide a positive example for area
youth”.
The
keynote speaker at the luncheon will be Virginia
Attorney General Bob McDonnell, known for his interests
in regulatory reforms and promoting Internet safety. For
his part, General McDonnell stated, “I congratulate
Danny on this great accomplishment. His ascension to the
chairmanship is further proof that Virginia continues to
be a Commonwealth of opportunity and innovation. As a
long time active member of the Dulles Chamber Danny is
the right individual for this position. He will serve
the Chamber well.” Hugh Keogh, president & CEO of the
Virginia Chamber of Commerce, noted, “We have been
impressed with the rapid progress of the newly
constituted Dulles Regional Chamber. Danny Vargas’
ascendancy to the chairmanship is another indication of
the progressiveness and relevancy of this fine
institution”. Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
president, Michel Zajur commented, “It is great to see
the growth of more diversity in our state. Danny is a
wonderful example of Hispanic leadership contributing
back to the community at large”.
Recent
estimates show the Hispanic population in Northern
Virginia at approximately a quarter of a million people
or about 12% of the population. Fairfax County is home
to 12 of the top 500 Hispanic-owned businesses in the
country.
