Virginia businessman Danny Vargas has been
named the new director of the Republican
National Hispanic Assembly. The assembly, a
33-year-old national organization that
attempts to connect Hispanics and the
Republican Party, has also named a new
executive director.
Past Chairman Pedro Celis, a computer
scientist and founder of the Washington
state RNHA, will continue to serve on the
assembly's national board.
Mr. Vargas, a seven-year veteran of the Air
Force, is a former state chairman of the
RNHA in Virginia. In July 2004, Mr. Vargas
started VARCom Solutions, a provider of
marketing, sales and communications support
services. Upon starting VARCom, Mr. Vargas
started getting involved in the Herndon
Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, and in
July became its chairman.
"The Hispanic vote will be a decisive factor
in the 2008 elections," Mr. Vargas said in a
press release. "Our next president could
very well be elected as a results of the
choices made by Hispanic Americans. The new
leadership of the RNHA is committed to
advancing and promoting the core beliefs and
principals of Republicanism. Hispanic values
are Republican values, and our job is to
make that clear."
Samuel Bettencourt, the former vice
president of advancement and strategic
initiatives at the Alliance for Marriage,
was named the new national executive
director of the RNHA. He replaces Bettina
Inclan, who is now a communications director
for U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.).
The assembly selected other new officers in
addition to Mr. Vargas. They are Utah's
Marco Diaz as first co-chair; New York's
Larry Meneses as second co-chair; Florida's
Alci Maldonado, secretary; Minnesota's Rick
Aguilar, assistant secretary; Connecticut's
Duffy Acevedo, treasurer; and Bob Spindell
of Wisconsin, assistant treasurer.
