Northern Virginia's growing Hispanic business community now has a voice at an unprecedented volume
Washington Business Journal
Danny Vargas, the new chairman of the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, will be the first Hispanic to chair a traditional chamber of commerce in Virginia's history. Vargas is president of Herndon-based VarCom Solutions LLC, a marketing and public relations consulting company. He'll be installed in the Dulles chamber chairman's post on July 11.
Vargas calls the appointment "an exciting opportunity to promote unity among all segments of the community." Recent estimates show Northern Virginia's Hispanic population is about 250,000, or 12 percent of the region's residents.
Fairfax County is home to 12 of the nation's 500 largest Hispanic-owned companies, according to Hispanic Business magazine. In 2006, those 12 companies earned a total of $516.4 million in revenues and employed 5,715 workers.
Vargas has been involved with the Dulles chamber for several years, and as a member of its board of directors has acted as the group's vice president of marketing and chairman of its communications committee. Vargas is also one of the founding members of the chamber's Hispanic Business Council.
